The International Certificate of Competence for Operators of Pleasure Craft (ICC) is issued through the offices of the ISA on behalf of the Irish Government. It was established under resolution No. 40 of the Working Party on Inland Water Transport for the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.
The aim of the ICC is to provide boat owners and people wishing to charter boats abroad with an internationally recognised document certifying their competence to skipper a boat for recreational use.

|Length of Course||1 day|
|Objective||You will be capable of helming without supervision in good conditions and familiar waters and understand the responsibilities of powerboat helmsman.|
|Location||SailCork's base at East Ferry in Cork Harbour, with waters suitable for powerboating in all weathers. Full facilities including a chartroom for briefings, changing rooms, easy access to the water for dinghies and marina for larger boats. Assessment can also be held in your own club.|
|Equipment Included||Buoyancy aids. Waterproof clothing available for hire if required.|
|What to bring||Your personal powerboating gear, suitable for powerboating in all conditions. Buoyancy aid or lifejacket. Notebook and pen. Whistle and knife. Powerboat logbook|
|Meals||Bring a packed lunch as well as snack and drink for mid morning.|
Boat preparation, launch & recovery, low & high speed manoeuvres, anchoring & docking, basic navigation, weather & coastal knowledge, safety. Personal, crew and casualty safety. Includes endorsements for planing, outdrive, outboard, console control and tiller control.
|Pre Course||Skills & knowledge to operate a powerboat in waters with which you are familiar, in daylight hours. Important note: you must be either an Irish citizen or permanently resident in Ireland (and visa compliant if applicable) to qualify for an ICC issued by ISA on behalf of the Irish government.|

Our rowing club is going very well and all Eddie's training last year has proved very useful, including at our Nationals where trained safety boat helms and crews are highly valued! Next season (competition starts again in February 2020), we will have a refurbished 40hp 5 metre RIB in place for safety boat work, so all is looking good now thanks in large part to Sail Cork’s courses!
