Junior Powerboating
SailCork is Irelands leading powerboat school. We have special junior powerboat courses which follow an international syllabus. "Enjoy learning afloat". Fun courses using a tried and tested system. Come aboard and join the fun now! We have been teaching juniors for over 35 years and SailCork has developed a professional teaching programme to help juniors to enjoy learning afloat in total safety.
The team of friendly instructors is led by Eddie English who, as a qualified trainer and senior instructor, was one of those responsible for initiating the National Dinghy Scheme and the Powerboat Scheme in Ireland. All certified courses are recognised by the ISA. We pride ourselves in individual attention and we have no more than 40 pupils at any one time with an average ratio of 4:1
Professional Learning Environment:
East Ferry in Cobh is an ideal location for sailing. Besides boasting excellent facilities for sailing and boating East Ferry Marina is the home of the Morlogue Inn. Ideal for parents to relax whilst our pupils prepare to go afloat! Sailing from East Ferry allows us the safety of using a marina and access to the safe, unspoilt waters of the Eastern Harbour.
Ashore: The shorebased sections of our courses take place using the most up to date teaching methods and equipment. The classroom philosophy is based on fun learning ashore linked directly to the sessions afloat where the pupils spend most of their time on our courses.
Afloat: Our "outdoor classroom" is Cork Harbour. We work in areas which provide a totally safe environment for teaching afloat. Most courses are run in the safe, shallow, sheltered waters of the Eastern Harbour under the watchful eye of our qualified instructors.
Cork Harbour has been the home of leisure sailing for nearly 300 years and the year is crammed with regattas and races with the emphasis on safety on the water and of course fun afloat and ashore!
Junior Dinghy Sailing: We use a variety of dinghies from single handers and safe specially built training boats to the fast exhilarating RS Vision. We follow a structured syllabus to help pupils enjoy progressing in sailing.
SailCork - Special teaching scheme This scheme has been carefully developed to provide structured fun learning. Using this world recognised teaching system pupils enjoy learning quickly . The scheme is progressive - in order to learn advanced skills the pupil will first need to master basic techniques. Experienced pupils join in at their own level.
Perrywinkle Club - ages of 4 to 8 This course is specially designed for pupils from 4 to 8 yrs of age. It covers all aspects of safe water conduct in a variety of watersports. This fun course provides a gentle introduction to the water giving participants a respect for the sea as well as removing fears they may have - after all watersports are great fun!!
Salty Dogs Club- Watersports - ages of 8 - 16 The main emphasis in this programme is on fun! We include Dinghy Sailing, Canoeing, Raft building, Powerboating and seamanship skills! We concentrate on safety, seamanship skills and enjoyment! Pupils usually get a feel for the sea on this course and usually go on to specialise in dinghy sailing.
Dinghy Sailors (8-16)
This scheme has been carefully developed with the ISA to provide structured fun learning. Afterall, it is paramount that students enjoy themselves whilst learning a lifelong skill. The scheme is progressive - in order to learn advanced skills the pupil will first need to master basic techniques. We use a variety of dinghies e.g.Vision 16, Raider 18s, Walker Bay amongst others!
* Start Sailing: 1 week. A brief taste of dinghy sailing for beginners introducing basic boat handling and background knowledge. Fee 1 Week €310
* Basic Skills: 2 weeks. By the end of the course the pupil should have a basic knowledge and be capable of safely sailing a dinghy in light winds. Fee 1 Week €310 or 2 Weeks €575 Both courses run weekly June 22nd to Aug 28th Mon to Fri 10:00-16:30.
* Improving Skills: 2 weeks. By the end of this course the pupil should have a safe, competent, practical approach to dinghy sailing and should be capable of sailing in moderate conditions. Fee 1 Week €350 or 2 Weeks €625
* Advanced Boating handling: To develop adv. boat handling and tuning skills and prepare you to sail flat out in strong winds.
* Kites and Wires 1: Sail with Spinnakers and Trapezes. Go racing 1: Develop skills to be able to race and club and inter club level in Ireland.
* Adventure 1: Learn to sail longer trips and in stronger winds. Fee 1 Week €350 or 2 Weeks €625
* Kites and Wires 2, Go racing 2 and Adventure 2 will be scheduled also this season. Dates : check with the office for full schedule.
Skull and Bones Club
Practise your newly learned skills, go afloat under our supervision and guidance:
* Thursdays June - August 1530 - 1815. Fee €32, Boat owner Fee €27
* Saturday February - December 1400 - 1700. Fee €35, Boat owner Fee €30
The Day: After signing on pupils attend a briefing at 1000 where they meet their instructors and see the course plans. After kitting out the boats are prepared and launched to go afloat. Most of the day is spent afloat having fun and learning new skills. Lunch is at East Ferry or beach location and the fleet returns to base to debrief and end the day. Each day finishes at 1630
What to bring: 1. Plenty of warm clothes, hat + change of clothes. 2. Booties or soft shoes (old runners will do). 3. Waterproofs or oilskins, sunblock or cream. 4. Wetsuits may be hired if desired. 5. Buoyancy aid will be provided. Shorts. 6. Packed lunch (Lunch can be purchased at Marlogue Inn) 7. Logbook-€ 10.00 (can be purchased from International Sailing)
Getting to East Ferry : To get to Cobh by rail- . International Sailing will be organising a shuttle service from Cobh to East Ferry. A special ferry service will be available from East Ferry Midleton on certain weeks - contact us for details.

JUNIOR REGATTA END OF THE SUMMER SEASON!
Enjoy meeting all your sailing friends at our end of season Regatta at East Ferry Marina. Plenty of watersports fun action with sailing, powerboating, canoeing and lots of fun racing! The day afloat will be finished off with a special relay race on and in the water at the Marina.! We will have a special prizegiving and a Bar B Q at the Marlogue Inn. Parents and family are more than welcome to watch the fun and to join in the Bar B Q Places are unfortunately limited and must be booked and paid for in advance Ð remember first come first served. The cost will be €55 (including Bar B Q)
11.00 Regatta Day will begin - sign in , change to go afloat and rig boats. 1130 Action afloat- revise your skills afloat with your instructor and head for lunchtime destination.
13.00 Lunch Ð (bring a packed lunch) Treasure hunt afloat and ashore Ð revise your skills afloat and return to Marina
16.00 Finals of fun relay races Ð plenty of action on and in the water! (Parents come watch!! Ð this will take place at the marina) 17.00 Bar B Q begins- if parents and others want food please book at Marlogue Inn
18.00 End of day and Prizegiving and farewells for season!!

Underwater cable Aghada to Cuskinny
One Thursday evening at the very start of February a group of seafarers decended on my local, “The Roaring Donkey”, in Cobh and lashed into copious quantities of gin and tonic. As the conversations began to flow it transpired that they were the crew of the Norwegian vessel, “Elektron”, docked at Cork Dockyard in Rushbrooke. Not just any ordinary ship but a specialist vessel for cable laying – she was here to lay the cable from Aghada Power Station to Cuskinny on the Great Island in Cork Harbour.
