Baltimore (West Cork) to Dingle (Kerry)  Sun 7 Aug - Fri 12

Skellig Rock KerryJoin in Baltimore on Sunday evening and after a briefing aboard relax and enjoy Baltimore. On Monday morning we sail west to Cape Clear or the Islands for lunch - in the afternoon we may get to see the Fastnet Rock as we sail on to Ireland's most south westerly port -Crookhaven. On Tuesday we sail around Mizen Head and on to Bantry Bay and head for the lovely Lawrence Cove on Bere Island.  We cross the border to Kerry on Wednesday and it's onward across the Kenmare River for an overnight stop in the delightful Derrynane Harbour. The voyage continues on Thursday with a great sail to Valentia Island  and possibly the famous Skelligs. The final leg of the voyage will be the  crossing Dingle Bay to enter Dingle Harbour. We will sail nearly 100 miles on some of the most dramatic coastline in Ireland. Enjoy learning during your cruise with Eddie English - your Yachtmaster instructor.

Sail from Dingle to Valentia and on to the Skelligs, cross the Kenmare River and see Dursey and Bere Islands and the Bull Rock. See the dramatic Bantry Bay and pass the Mizen. See the Fastnet Rock (pictured right) and explore Carbery's 100 isles and visit Baltimore or Cape Clear. Enjoy the West Cork ports of call - choosing from Barlogue, Castletownsend, Union Hall, Glandore, Courtmacsherry and Kinsale before sailing to the SailCork base at East Ferry Marina in Cork Harbour. This is a fantastic milebuilder -  You will sail nearly 200 miles in the week and visit at least a dozen ports of call and anchorages. Why did the Costa Concordia sink?

 The town of Cobh has been a port of call for ocean liners for over 150 years - now about 60 liners visit Cork Harbour each year- we all love the liners!  Everybody in the maritime community was shocked last Friday night with the news of the grounding of the massive Italian cruise liner the Costa Concordia. I spent the weekend trawling the web to try to find out what really happened - this blog is the tragic story of the last voyage of the Costa Concordia on  Friday the 13th of January 2012.
