Champagne Sailing and Super Social Sovereign’s Cup

Sovereign’s Cup was great fun afloat and ashore and we now have some special social awards to be allocated!

Chris Cantillion aboard SailCork's Holy Grounder at Sovereign's CupAboard “Holy Grounder” I had a dedicated hardy crew and Chris Cantillion wins a special award for frightening away basking sharks(by simply looking at them!) Chris also winds the “Presidential Award” for shaking the most hands during the week. Chris is now in training for Claves Week and it is strongly rumoured that he is planning a solo circumnavigation of Little Island.

Jim Slattery aboard SailCork's Holy Grounder at Sovereigns Cup 09Chris was serving under watch leader Jim Slattery – Jim showed perserverance and dedication (especially when chatting to female members of the crew) Jim is at the moment recuperating from the stress of running the social side of the Boston and Galway stopovers in the Volvo Round the World Ocean Race and despite this he managed to serve his time on the rail- always first to respond to “Heads Out!” Jim is now in training for the West Cork season - and attempting to achieve the record time for getting across the boat during a tack.

Dave O' D on Bandon river with SailCork crewBandon RiverLocal river pilot and space cadet Dave O’ Donnell continued his high speed river cruises leading and expidition to Kilmacsomon Quay and Innishannon and managing to guide Bobby Nash and his Cork/Kerry/Limerick crew through the sea of reeds! Dave was also a winner in our disco dancing competition and the O’ Donnells win the family prize for the “great night out”

Denis Murphy wins "Manager of the Week" - Denis insisted on waiting until the end of each evening to ensure we had enough to drink. He has now officially made the switch from rowing to sailing having achieved a podium position aboard "Moliah" during the week. Denis was a pre start favourite for the disco dancing but retired early - to ensure he was 'managing" - again ensuring revellers had enough to drink. Denis also managed to manage Mick Mc Kenna on the foredeck and to manage Rob O' Leary(winner Class 1) ashore (Although it is suggested that Denis had some help in using handcuffs on Roberts feet)Denis Murphy

Ant + Jo at Holy Grounder victory party

Anthony O’ Leary just pipped yours truly for the sexiest shirt competition – he was also winner of the 70’s disco dancing (partnered by JoJo), the table dancing and the old mens waltzing sections. Anthony can be seen on the local circuit with his group Ant and the Ix -  they will get the gig they always wanted very soon in the capital - they will make their Dublin debut at Dun Laoghaire Week

Power overpowered - sailcork

Thee weeks floor wrestling competition was declared null and void when Tom Power (RIYC) accused Cork competition of tying his shoelaces together – the Cork team claimed that Tom was just acting the “Langer”
