A course for aspiring skippers with some yachting experience and  navigation and sailing skills.

Duration : 5 days or equivalent over 2 weekends. 


Candidates with vast Skippering experience and relevant miles logged, please contact the office for advice on the best route and the most efficient method to complete certification.

Objective The aim of the course is to provide participants with the basic skills and knowledge necessary to skipper a sailing yacht by day in waters with which they are familiar.
Location Cork Harbour or West Cork, South Coast of Ireland.
Equipment Included The Boat has full safety equipment, all nav. aids and powerful engines. The safety equipment includes lifejackets and harnesses for each crew member. Waterproofs are available on request.
What to bring Soft bag with change of warm clothes, toiletries, sleeping bag. Your own sailing waterproofs if you have them.
Meals Most meals are pre-prepared by our qualified Galley Cook. Nothing better than sitting at the table in the saloon for a meal with fellow crewmembers after a hard day's sailing! Please let us know if you have dietary needs or allergies.
Syllabus

This course introduces the subjects of pilotage, navigation, seamanship and boat handling up to the standard required to skipper a small cruising yacht safely by day in familiar tidal waters. Candidates should have theory to the level of Day Skipper. It is recommended you attend the Day Skipper shorebased course beforehand.

Preparation for sea, deck work, navigation, pilotage, meteorology, rules of the road, maintenance and repair work, engines, victualling, emergency situations, yacht handling under power, yacht handling under sail, passage making, night cruising

Pre Course ISA or RYA Competent Crew or equivalent. Theory to the level of Day Skipper shore-based. Sea miles as Skipper must be logged.
Pre Course Advice Before this course, have an up to date Cruising Logbook with your past experience and certificates.
